Biography

I was born in Germany and have been living in Ireland for the last 30 years.

I hold a PhD from the Trinity Business School, an MBA from the Open University, and a Business degree from the College of Commerce in Munich, Germany. My teaching involves working with undergraduate and graduate students as well as executives in Ireland, Germany and the UK.

My research and development interests focus on improving practice and advancing theory in sustainable service operations and service innovation, through participatory methodologies such as collaborative action learning, action research and action oriented leadership. I worked with both private and public sector organisations including BMW, Hilton International, Hertz and the Health Service Executive. I am currently working with the National Federation of Group Water Schemes (Ireland) and the National Trust in Wales on a collaborative action learning project, aimed at developing innovation capabilities.

For over 30 years, I held leadership roles in the international service industry, in higher education, global shared services, publishing, health services, retail and the hospitality industry.

Throughout my career, I combined academic engagement with practice. In parallel to my teaching and research engagement in the Trinity Business School, I hold a senior management role in the Trinity Human Resources Department.

Ich habe einen Doktortitel von der Trinity Business School, einen MBA von der Open University und einen Abschluss in Betriebswirtschaft von der Fachhochschule in München. Ich lehre und arbeite mit Studenten und Doktoranden sowie Führungskräften in Irland, Deutschland und Großbritannien. Meine Forschungs- und Entwicklungsinteressen konzentrieren sich auf Praxisverbesserung und die Theorie – Weiterentwicklung im Bereich Nachhaltigkeit in Dienstleistungen und Serviceinnovationen, durch partizipative Methoden wie Aktionslernen, Aktionsforschung und handlungsorientierte Führung. Ich habe sowohl mit privaten als auch mit öffentlichen Organisationen wie BMW, Hilton International, Hertz und dem Health Service Executive zusammengearbeitet. Derzeit arbeite ich mit den National Federation of Group Water Schemes (Irland) und dem National Trust in Wales an einem kollaborativen Aktionslernprojekt zur Entwicklung von Innovationsfähigkeiten. Über 30 Jahre lang hatte ich Führungspositionen in der internationalen Dienstleistungsbranche inne, in der Hochschulbildung, bei globalen Shared Services, im Verlagswesen, im Gesundheitswesen, im Handel und im Tourismus. Während meiner Karriere verband ich akademisches Engagement mit Praxis. Parallel zu meinem Lehr- und Forschungsarbeit an der Trinity Business School übe ich eine leitende Position in der Personalabteilung von Trinity aus.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

“Irland wird mein Land werden, eher als Amerika oder Frankreich ….”

Zu dieser Zeit hatte ich nur die USA und Frankreich besucht. Ich war damals 20 Jahre alt. Am Tag meiner Ankunft in Irland hatte ich ein paar Iren getroffen und einige Gespräche in meinem gebrochenen Englisch geführt. Schon damals bemerkte ich die Freundlichkeit und Freundlichkeit der Menschen, ihr freundliches Lächeln und ihre Hilfsbereitschaft. Auf meiner Fahrt vom Flughafen hatte ich etwas von der irischen Landschaft, den sanften Hügeln der Landschaft mit ihren tausend Schattierungen von Grün, der schönen und zerklüfteten Ostküste gesehen. Ich muss schon dann gefühlt haben, dass Irland für mich richtig ist.

Ich verließ Irland im Juli 1992 wieder, um mein Studium zu beginnen. Ich lebte, studierte und arbeitete dann in New York, USA, in London, Großbritannien, in Brüssel, Belgien und in München Deutschland, kehrte aber 1987 nach Irland zurück – für immer!
